Flight in a jet aircraft from Almaty is an opportunity to experience G-forces up to 6G and perform aerobatic maneuvers. At toor, we organize departures from the Boraldai, Zhetigen, and Taldykorgan airfields on L-39, MiG-29, Yak-130, and L-29 Delfin aircraft. Prices start from 3,263 KZT for a 15-minute flight. All programs include a medical check, briefing, and insurance.

L-39, MiG-29 or Yak-130: which jet aircraft to choose for a flight

The choice of aircraft determines not only the price, but also the sensations in the cockpit, available aerobatic maneuvers, and the depth of control. Let's break down the three main machines — their characteristics, capabilities, and who they are best suited for.

Which aircraft to choose for a first flight — recommendation for a beginner

A flight on an L-39 in Almaty is the best choice for a first flight on a jet: dual controls with an instructor, a smooth build-up to 6G G-forces, and a price starting from 3,263 KZT for 15 minutes. The Czechoslovakian Albatros is the most mass-produced jet aircraft in the world: its aerodynamics forgive a beginner's mistakes, and the front landing gear strut with a damper makes takeoff and landing smoother than on fighters. A flight on a fighter jet from Almaty on a MiG-29 offers a denser afterburner sound and sharper entry into turns — the G-forces are the same 6G, but the cost starts from 50,000 KZT, and full control is not available. A flight on a MiG-29 in Almaty costs from 50,000 KZT for 15 minutes and is only available with an instructor — full control is not provided by the design. The Yak-130 is the newest available: a digital cockpit simulating 4++ generation fighter modes, its programs cost from 40,000 KZT for 30 minutes. If you want to try piloting a jet aircraft in Kazakhstan, choose a 60-minute flight on the L-39 or Yak-130: the instructor will hand over the controls after reaching an altitude of 3000 m and correct errors via radio.

Departure airfields: Boraldai, Zhetigen, and Taldykorgan

Departures on jet aircraft are conducted from three airfields: Boraldai (20 km from the city), Zhetigen (40 km), and Taldykorgan (250 km) — the choice depends on the aircraft type and weather conditions. Boraldai is the main base for the L-39 and L-29 Delfin: a 2500 m concrete runway accommodates all types, operates year-round, with restrictions only on visibility (minimum 500 m). Zhetigen is a former military airfield with a reinforced runway and its own control tower, used for the MiG-29, but it takes 20 minutes longer to get there. Taldykorgan is a backup option for the L-39 in strong crosswinds (over 8 m/s): Almaty residents fly there less often due to the distance, but transfer for a group of up to 4 people via toor will cost 6,000 KZT. Boraldai is the optimal choice for the first time: it is closest to the city and accepts flights year-round without seasonal breaks.

Aerobatic maneuvers: what can be performed and how to prepare

Aerobatic maneuvers are the main reason people choose a jet flight from Almaty. We'll tell you which maneuvers are available, how they feel, and how to prepare for them. Aerial stunts in a jet aircraft in Almaty include the barrel roll, loop, bell, and half-loop — all maneuvers are performed with an instructor at an altitude of 2000 meters or more.

What aerobatic maneuvers can be performed on a jet aircraft

  • Barrel roll: a 360° rotation of the aircraft around its longitudinal axis with G-forces up to 3G — feels like a centrifuge at an amusement park, but in three planes.
  • Loop: a classic "dead loop" with a radius of 300-400 meters — at the top you experience weightlessness for 2-3 seconds, and on the exit, G-forces up to 6G.
  • Bell: the aircraft slows down to zero, pitches the nose vertically up, and "drops" tail-first — the only maneuver where you see the ground directly in front of you.
  • Half-loop: half of a loop with an exit into inverted flight — G-forces smoothly increase from 2G to 4G, easier for beginners to handle.
  • Combination of maneuvers: on a 30-minute flight, our pilot-instructor sequentially performs 3-4 maneuvers with recovery pauses — in one program you go through the entire basic arsenal of aerobatics.

How to prepare for aerobatic maneuvers: breathing and body position

To more easily withstand G-forces up to 6G during aerobatic maneuvers, master the anti-G straining maneuver: a deep breath, hold, sharp exhale with abdominal muscle tension — this fighter pilot technique prevents blood flow from the head. During the pre-flight briefing, which is included in the price, our pilot-instructor demonstrates the correct seating position: back pressed against the seat, head against the headrest, feet braced on the floor. The most common mistake is lifting your head to look at the instruments: during a loop, the neck experiences a load of up to 40 kg, and the muscles cannot support the weight. Before the flight, avoid heavy meals for 4 hours and alcohol for 12 hours — an empty stomach reduces the risk of nausea during sharp maneuvers by 70% according to our observations.

What to choose: a flight with or without maneuvers — difference in programs

We offer two basic programs: an introductory flight without maneuvers (gentle mode, G-forces up to 3G) and a flight with aerobatic maneuvers (up to 6G) — we recommend beginners start with the first option. The introductory program lasts 15 minutes: takeoff, climb to 2000 meters, smooth turns with views of the Zailiysky Alatau and the Big Almaty Lake, then a gentle descent — G-forces do not exceed 2.5G, which is comfortable for any age. A flight with maneuvers is available from 30 minutes: the first 15 minutes are for gaining altitude and viewing the Almaty surroundings, the second 15 minutes are for sequentially performing a barrel roll, loop, and half-loop, with the right for the passenger to stop the program at any moment with a gesture. If you are unsure, choose the 30-minute flight — the price includes a medical check, insurance, and a commemorative certificate of the maneuvers performed.

Medical requirements and contraindications: who cannot fly

G-forces up to 6G are a serious strain on the body. Let's look at what medical contraindications exist, who absolutely cannot fly, and how the medical check before the flight works.

Medical contraindications for a jet flight: complete list

  • Cardiovascular diseases: hypertension, ischemia, heart defects, arrhythmia — G-forces increase blood pressure and heart rate, which can trigger an attack.
  • Epilepsy and tendency to seizures: sharp maneuvers and altitude changes can cause a seizure even during long-term remission.
  • Pregnancy at any stage: G-forces up to 6G create a risk of placental abruption and impaired fetal blood supply.
  • Alcohol and drug intoxication: even residual ethanol in the blood increases dizziness and nausea during aerobatics.
  • Acute infections and exacerbation of chronic diseases: fever, cough, or runny nose reduce tolerance to G-forces and can cause complications. Even in the absence of chronic diseases, a medical check before the flight is mandatory — we include it in the cost: a medical worker measures blood pressure and pulse; if there are deviations, the flight is rescheduled for another date.

Weight, height, and age restrictions

A jet flight from Almaty is available for passengers weighing up to 120 kg, up to 195 cm tall, and aged 14 years and older (with written parental consent) — these parameters are dictated by the design of the ejection seat and restraint system. The L-39 seat is designed for people up to 190 cm tall, the MiG-29 up to 195 cm, and the Yak-130 up to 188 cm, with a difference of 5-7 cm noticeably affecting cockpit comfort: with little room to spare, knees press against the instrument panel, and with excess height, straps press on the shoulders. For passengers aged 14-17, a supervising adult is mandatory, and for those over 60, verbal consent from a therapist at an outpatient appointment is required. If your weight is close to 120 kg, choose the L-39: its seat has the greatest load capacity margin among the available aircraft.

How the medical check before the flight works

The medical check before the flight takes 10-15 minutes and includes measuring blood pressure, pulse, checking vision, and an oral interview about your well-being — no separate medical certificate is required. Our medical worker at the Boraldai or Zhetigen airfield checks the readings against the norm: upper blood pressure no higher than 140 mm Hg, resting pulse 60-90 beats per minute, vision without acute impairments (glasses and contact lenses are allowed but must be secured under the helmet). If results are questionable — for example, blood pressure 145/90 — the flight is delayed for 30-40 minutes, you are given time to rest, and the measurement is repeated. We recommend not eating heavy food or drinking carbonated drinks 2-3 hours before the flight: a full stomach under G-forces up to 6G can cause nausea, even if you have no contraindications.

Flight safety: preparation, briefing, and actual risks

Fear of flying in a jet aircraft is a normal reaction, even for experienced passengers. We'll tell you how the safety system is structured: from pilot certification to participant insurance.

How flight safety is ensured: from medical check to landing

Safety is ensured by a four-level system: pre-flight medical check, briefing, technical inspection of the aircraft, and weather report — each stage is mandatory before takeoff. The medical check is conducted by the airfield doctor 30 minutes before departure: blood pressure and pulse are measured, the absence of alcohol is checked, and overall condition is visually assessed. If blood pressure is above 140/90 or pulse is elevated, the flight is postponed — this is not uncommon, especially for beginners. The technical inspection of the aircraft is performed by the airfield's engineering and aviation service according to a 40-point checklist, including checking the engine, hydraulics, and ejection system. The weather report is requested immediately before engine start: if cloud cover is below 300 meters or crosswinds exceed 10 m/s, the flight is delayed. All pilot-instructors in Kazakhstan have certification of at least 1st class and over 1000 flight hours on jet aircraft — this guarantees that in an abnormal situation, the pilot acts on instinct.

What is included in the pre-flight briefing

The pre-flight briefing lasts 20-30 minutes and includes: rules of conduct in the cockpit, communication signals with the pilot, breathing techniques under G-forces, and emergency procedures. The pilot-instructor shows how to use the oxygen mask and helmet, explains that under G-forces up to 6G you need to tense your abdominal muscles and exhale through clenched teeth — this prevents loss of consciousness. Commands are also specifically discussed: the "thumbs up" gesture means everything is fine, the "finger rotation" gesture means reduce the load. In our standard checklist, the briefing is recorded as a mandatory stage; it cannot be skipped — without a signature in the logbook, the flight will not be permitted. During the briefing, you will learn the main rule: never touch the red handles and switches in the cockpit — they control the ejection seat and emergency fuel dump.

Insurance and certificate: what you receive after the flight

A flight on a military aircraft from Almaty includes life and health insurance for the participant for the duration of the flight, and after landing you receive a personalized certificate of the completed flight. The policy is issued by an insurance company accredited at the airfield — it covers the risks of G-forces up to 6G, aerobatic maneuvers, and emergency evacuation. The certificate specifies the aircraft type (L-39, MiG-29, or Yak-130), date, flight duration, and the pilot-instructor's signature. In our programs, the certificate is issued in a hard cover with a holographic seal and flight number — it can be framed. The insurance covers risks associated with G-forces up to 6G and aerobatic maneuvers — this is standard for all aviation tours in Kazakhstan, not an additional option.

Flight prices: breakdown of program costs and hidden fees

The cost of the program depends on the duration, aircraft type, and additional services. Let's break down all the options and show what the final price consists of.

Cost of flight programs: price table for L-39, MiG-29, and Yak-130

An extreme flight on an aircraft in Almaty for 30 minutes on an L-39 with aerobatic maneuvers provides a full range of sensations at a price accessible to one person.

Additional services: transfer, video, and photo

Optional services are added to the cost: transfer from the city to the airfield — 6,000 KZT per group, video recording — 5,000 KZT/person, photography — 3,000 KZT/person. The medical check, briefing, and insurance are already included in the base price — no extra payment is needed for them. Video is recorded from two cameras: one is mounted on the fuselage, the second on the pilot's helmet, so both the instrument panel and the horizon outside the window are in the frame. Ordering a transfer from us is beneficial for a group of up to 4 people: 6,000 KZT is divided among everyone, and the trip to the Boraldai airfield (20 km from the center of Almaty) is cheaper than a taxi.

Group discounts and how to save on a flight

When booking for a group of 4 or more people, we provide a 10-15% discount — this is the only way to reduce the cost without losing program quality. The discount is applied to the base cost, and additional services (transfer, video, photo) are paid separately. For example, a company of 4 people on a 30-minute L-39 flight pays 15,000 KZT × 4 = 60,000 KZT, with a 15% discount — 51,000 KZT for everyone, or 12,750 KZT per person. The discount cannot be combined with other promotions and is only valid for a single booking on one date. Check the final amount when booking — the manager will calculate the final cost considering all options.

Seasonality and weather: when is the best time to fly from Almaty

A jet flight is possible year-round, but the weather affects the program. Let's look at which months are optimal and how weather changes the flight.

Optimal season for a flight: May-September

An aviation tour in Almaty on a jet is best planned from May to September: during this period, there is minimal precipitation, good visibility, and stable weather, allowing all aerobatic maneuvers to be performed. In the summer months, cloud cover over the Boraldai and Zhetigen airfields stays at 200-400 meters for only 5-7 days a month, whereas in October-March, low cloud cover is recorded for 12-18 days. With visibility over 10 km, pilots perform the full program: loop, barrel roll, bell, and half-loop — all maneuvers without altitude restrictions. In the summer months, cloud cover is minimal, and you can see the mountains of the Zailiysky Alatau from an altitude of 3000-5000 meters — this adds spectacle to the flight, especially on the 30-minute program.

How weather affects the flight program in winter

In winter, a jet flight is possible, but the program is adjusted: with low cloud cover, aerobatic maneuvers are performed at lower altitudes, and with strong winds (over 15 m/s), the flight may be delayed. At the Boraldai airfield in December-February, the average cloud cover is 7-8 points on a 10-point scale, which in 30-40% of cases limits the altitude of maneuvers to 1500 meters instead of the usual 3000-4000. Frost down to -20°C does not affect the operation of the L-39 and MiG-29 engines — they start without preheating, but the cockpit has heating, so dress as for a walk, without scarves or ties (they are removed before boarding according to safety instructions).

What to do if a flight is postponed due to weather

If the weather does not allow a jet flight, we reschedule the departure for the nearest suitable day at no extra charge — the prepayment is retained. Postponements most often occur due to low cloud cover (less than 300 meters) or crosswinds over 10 m/s — these are standard safety restrictions for jet aircraft. At the Boraldai and Zhetigen airfields, the weather report is updated every 60 minutes, and the decision to fly is made by the aircraft commander 30 minutes before departure — if visibility is below 3 km or cloud cover is below 150 meters, the flight is cancelled. In our practice, such postponements occur 2-3 times per winter season, and in 90% of cases, an alternative date is found within 3-5 days.

Common beginner mistakes: what to do and not do before a flight

Even with perfect flight organization, beginners often make mistakes that spoil the experience. We've compiled the top 5 typical mistakes and explain how to avoid them.

Mistake 1: Incorrect clothing and footwear

The most common mistake before a jet flight is loose clothing with scarves, ties, and long shoelaces: they can get caught on cockpit controls and create an emergency situation. In the L-39 or MiG-29 cockpit, the ejection seat and control stick are positioned closely — a loose scarf or dangling tie under 4-6G G-forces flies towards the instrument panel, and the pilot has to waste time removing them. Long shoelaces on sneakers catch on the rudder pedals — one awkward step, and you lose control of the foot controls. You can check the equipment requirements with us in advance, but the general rule is simple: comfortable, fitted clothing (tracksuit, jeans, t-shirt) and closed-toe flat-soled shoes — sneakers or boots without metal elements.

Mistake 2: Heavy meal before the flight

A heavy lunch 1-2 hours before the flight is a guaranteed discomfort under G-forces up to 6G: a full stomach presses on the diaphragm, making breathing difficult and provoking nausea. When performing a loop or bell, blood drains from the stomach, and semi-digested food starts to "come up" — this is not only unpleasant but also dangerous: the gag reflex in an oxygen mask can lead to aspiration. At Almaty airfields (Boraldai, Zhetigen), there is no doctor on board, and stopping the flight due to nausea is the only option. The optimal choice is a light snack 3 hours before the flight: a banana, yogurt, or toast with tea. Avoid carbonated drinks and coffee — they increase nausea under G-forces.

Mistake 3: Ignoring the briefing and the pilot's advice

Some passengers skip the briefing or don't listen to the pilot in the cockpit before the flight — this is the main mistake that robs you of control over the situation and reduces the enjoyment of the flight. The briefing lasts 15-20 minutes and includes three critical blocks: breathing technique under G-forces (diaphragmatic, with a hold on the inhale before a maneuver), body position (press your back into the seat, brace your feet on the floor), and actions in case of communication failure (show the "everything is fine" gesture). Passengers who skip the briefing lose spatial orientation on the first loop and start to panic — the pilot has to cancel the maneuvers. We always conduct a detailed briefing before the flight: listen to the pilot — he will tell you when it's best to perform a maneuver and how to prepare for it.

Mistake 4: Filming with a phone without a mount

Trying to film the flight with a phone in your hand is almost a guaranteed loss of the device: under 4-6G G-forces, the hand involuntarily opens, and the phone flies to the back of the cockpit. The L-39 or MiG-29 cockpit has no pockets or storage compartments — the phone simply falls to the floor, and it is impossible to retrieve it during the flight. After landing, mechanics find up to three phones per season in the tail section — some with broken screens from hitting metal elements. We recommend using an action camera with a helmet or seatbelt mount — this way you get high-quality video and don't risk your equipment. If you bring a phone, secure it to your chest strap.

Mistake 5: Choosing a program that is too difficult for the first time

The most common mistake beginners make is immediately booking a flight with maximum G-forces (MiG-29, 6G) without any piloting experience — this leads to discomfort and disappointment. On the MiG-29, 6G G-forces are reached in 2-3 seconds — an unprepared passenger doesn't have time to adapt, loses vision for 1-2 seconds (grayout), and cannot perform any maneuver consciously. Unlike the L-39, where G-forces increase smoothly to 4G, on the MiG, the sharp entry into a maneuver causes disorientation in 60% of beginners already on the first loop. We advise starting with the L-39 (4G) — it's the ideal "entry-level" aircraft: G-forces are noticeable but comfortable, and the controls are intuitively understandable. After the L-39, you will be ready for the MiG-29 and will get the maximum enjoyment from it.

Common beginner mistakes: what to do and not do before a flight

Five typical miscalculations that ruin the flight experience — and how to avoid them.

Key takeaways

  • Choose an aircraft based on your experience: The L-39 with 4G G-forces is ideal for a first flight, while the MiG-29 with 6G is for the adventurous who have already tried maneuvers.
  • Consider medical contraindications: Heart problems, blood pressure issues, or spinal conditions are a direct reason to consult a doctor before booking.
  • Prepare for the flight correctly: Light cotton clothing, closed-toe shoes without laces, and a light snack 3 hours before are the keys to comfort during maneuvers.
  • Do not ignore the pre-flight briefing: Listen carefully to the pilot and ask questions — the more you understand, the higher the safety and enjoyment.
  • Plan your budget in advance: The flight cost includes the flight itself, briefing, and basic insurance; additional services like in-cockpit video or a souvenir certificate are paid separately.

Покупала тур для себя, не пожалела. Инструктаж понятный, полёт шикарный. Марат помог с экипировкой. Чуть задержали вылет, но это неважно
